Setting up wlan with wep encryption

First step:
Make sure you have Ndiswrapper installed.
If you don't, open a terminal and enter:

sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9

That should take care of getting ndiswrapper.

Step two:

Get the drivers.
Go to http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com,
then "Download Drivers",
find the Amilo la 1703,
then go to Wlan.

Get the Windows XP drivers
Downloaded the drivers, and unzip them to where ever you want.

Step three:

Open a terminal and enter:

cd /path/to/unpacked/drivers/
sudo ndiswrapper -i sis163u.inf
sudo ndiswrapper -l

If that last command returns:
sis163u : driver installed
device (0BF8:100F) present

then you got everything set up ok and you can skip the next part.
If you get a message saying:
sis163u : driver installed

then you got the driver set up, but it doesn't know where your wlan card is located.
If that is the case, you gotta find out what the address to your hardware is.
On my notebook this was:

sudo ndiswrapper -d 1106:4336 sis163u

Please leave a comment if 1106:4336 doesn't fit your computer, as i don't have another one to measure against.

Step four:

Load the drivers into the system by entering into the terminal:

sudo modprobe ndiswrapper

Now your wlan card should be up and running.
To check that it is, in the terminal type:

sudo iwconfig

if you see wlan0 listed there, you should be up and running.

Now all you need to do it open up the network manager from the menu:
System->Administration->Network
Then click wlan0 in the list and click the properties button, and set the accesspoint/wepkey details.

Hi! I hope that somebody is

Hi!

I hope that somebody is still here :-) I´ve followed your instructions to step four, and when I try to load the drivers into the system it says: all config files need .conf : /etc/modprobe.d/nsdiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.

Did I do anything wrong? When I do sudo iwconfig there is no wlan0, only lo and eth0. Fn+F2 LED is on.

To be honest i have no idea,

j0lliyo — Sun, 12/06/2009 - 18:18

To be honest i have no idea, the laptop i have now has a open source driver, so i haven't used ndiswrapper since i gave away the amilo, and wouldn't have anything to test it on. Hopefully someone else here can help you though.

64 bit sis163u problem

Anonymous — Thu, 04/09/2009 - 11:58

Hi, first of all wann thank you for everything you've done here, it helps me a lot. Now I got problem with wifi drivers.
I've put 9.04 beta amd64 on this machine. Downloaded 64 bit sis163u driver for vista (R109d_USB_Vista). And when I do everything as described it goes okay:

mk@mk-book:~$ sudo ndiswrapper -l
sis163u : driver installed
device (0BF8:100F) present
mk@mk-book:~$

but after sudo modprobe ndiswrapper , iwconfig shows no wlan0 available. And dmesg | grep ndiswrapper gives following errors:

Hi, it was me. I've got registration now.

hi =)

j0lliyo — Sun, 04/12/2009 - 13:38

sorry i have never tried the 64 bit version of it, anyone else got any info for our friend here?

Is there an XP 64 bit driver? If so you could try that one, cause on 32 bit you have to use the XP driver as far as i know (I gave the laptop to my mother as a birthday present, so I don't have it any more for testing I'm afraid)

Thanks

mkdotam — Tue, 04/14/2009 - 11:46

I'll try to find 64 bit XP and try. I'll drop a line here if succeed.

And a very good solution for this Amilo stuff!!! I've already started to think about taking dell laptop and sell this one or give it my sister. (;

The driver to download is for Windows XP

Anonymous — Thu, 02/26/2009 - 10:08

Thank you for the excellent instructions for setting up WLAN on the Amilo. I would suggest adding the information in Step 2 that the driver to download is for Windows XP.

Thanks
Tuomas

Thank you for the feedback

j0lliyo — Sun, 03/01/2009 - 15:55

Specified the Windows XP driver now =)

Thank you

Fn+F2 not responding

Anonymous — Sun, 01/11/2009 - 14:33

Now, best without ndiswrapper, it gets IP by dhcp.

I removed splash and quiet optios and used this grub options
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-9-generic root=UUID= ro pci=assign-busses

but wireless light is off after X-windows starts (when it switchs from ascii terminal at boot time) and Fn+F2 is not responding.

Tried
$ sudo iwpriv wlan0 setradion 1
wlan0 no private ioctls.

but no luck

I keep tryng

fn+f2

j0lliyo — Sun, 01/18/2009 - 01:06

Mine too tends to crash if i fn+f2 after it's booted up, It's normally the first thing i do after the initial FS splash screen, do you have the same problem if you fn+f2 at that time?

Re: fn+f2

Anonymous — Sun, 01/18/2009 - 19:38

Fn+F2 keys only turns on/off wireless light, and only before starting X-Windows.
No crashes at any time.

Solution for me

Anonymous — Fri, 10/10/2008 - 15:12

Where can I get the correct number if 1106:4336 doesn't feet my computer?
Thanks a lot!

try this

j0lliyo — Sat, 10/25/2008 - 22:57

Sorry for the late reply, but you could try this out:

in a terminal, type: lspci -nn and see if you see any that look like these in the results:

00:00.4 Host bridge [0600]: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M890CE Host Bridge [1106:4336]

do

sudo ndiswrapper -a deviceid sis163u

where deviceid is the digits that looks like 1106:4336

just try the ones that look like the one i posted on top and see if they work

Hello!
Could you send me the driver to stankovg@abv.bg Tankyou very much!

What version?

Anonymous — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 12:59

The best thing would be to just download it off fujitsu-siemens.com, i don't have that computer anymore, so don't have the driver laying around either =)
